Heat Transfer and Vulcanization

Heat Transfer

Heat transfer salts are regularly used in chemical industries in processes that include narrow and well defined temperature limits.

The Durferrit salts have been used in exothermic and endothermic processes for many years, and contribute to the continuous and reliable work of the production lines of several top companies in this field. The expertise exchange with chemical reactor manufacturers and the use of extremely pure raw materials for the manufacture of the heat transfer salts are the requirements for our remarkable market position. Besides this, Durferrit regularly analyses salt samples from clients, ensuring safe and reliable work of the reactors.

Heat transfer salts can be used in a great variety of chemical processes, among them: concentrated caustic soda manufacturing, maleic and phtalic anhydride, concentrated sulfuric acid, methyl etyl ketona, bauxite decomposition, etc.

Vulcanization

The term vulcanization means the transformation of the chemical bonds of natural rubbers and plastic polymers, through the use of heat. In a simple way, we can say that during the vulcanization there is a “hardening” of the treated materials.

Salt baths have been many times preferred in continuous extrusion processes as transfer heat medium due to their several advantages in comparison to the other methods, such as:

  • Rubber and polymer profiles are quickly cured almost without degradation or porosity.
  • Since the salt´s heat transfer rate is higher than all the other mediums, up to 40% productivity raise can be obtained.
  • Due to the salt characteristics, the quantity of accelerators in the rubber components can be diminished.
  • The vulcanization lines that use salts can be completely automatized and run in practice effluent free.
