Nitriding
The process of nitrocarburizing (popularly known as nitriding), has a large and growing field of application in the treatment of parts and tools in several segments of industry.
The term nitrocarburizing means an enrichment of the surface of ferrous materials with nitrogen
and a small amount of carbon. This thermochemical treatment provides the parts with exceptional increase in the wear, fatigue,
seizure and corrosion resistances.
The processes
ARCOR® and TENIFER® have
been used for decades all over the world in several
segments of industry, and have been increasingly
preferred as alternatives to other surface engineering
processes, such as carburizing, carbonitriding, galvanic
coatings (like chrome, zinc, nickel and cadmium), and
even gas or plasma nitriding or nitrocarburizing
processes, nearly always with better results, higher
savings, and in full conformity and with respect to the
environmental legislation.
As the treatment is performed under
low temperature (if compared to other thermochemical
processes) it additionally offers the advantage to
generate extremely low dimensional distortions.
The nitrocarburizing processes from Durferrit, when
combined with a quenching bath with oxidant
characteristics (process Q), and when necessary
associated with a superficial finishing stage (process
QP) followed by a new superficial oxidation
(process QPQ), provide the parts with extremely
low friction coefficient and surface roughness, high
corrosion resistance and black decorative surface.
The processes ARCOR®
and TENIFER®
have been also excellent choices to allow
substitution of stainless steel for mild steel,
generating cost reductions.
Some examples of typical applications of the processes
ARCOR® and
TENIFER®:
-
Automotive motor valves
-
Crankshafts
-
Camshafts
-
Aluminum
extrusion dies
-
Forging

Several
other applications have found in the ARCOR®
and TENIFER®
processes the definitive solution to solve their
problems of
wear, fatigue, seizure and corrosion.
Durferrit do Brasil has in the city of Diadema a
complete line for demonstration of the ARCOR®
and TENIFER®
processes and for the development of new components and
applications.
