Nickel catalysts

Nickel catalysts are ceramic cubes impregnated with nickel oxide that are used to accelerate reactions of cracking or dissociation of gases, which will be latter used to form gas atmospheres in furnaces.

Durferrit do Brasil manufactures nickel catalysts that can be used in two processes:

  • Endothermic gas generator: the nickel catalyst accelerates the cracking reaction of a hydrocarbon (usually propane), generating an endothermic gas composed mainly of hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon monoxide. This atmosphere can be used (sometimes combined with other gases) in processes such as: brazing, mild steel and tool steel hardening, carburizing, protection gas for sintering, carbon restauration, etc.
  • Ammonia dissociator: the nickel catalyst accelerates the reaction of ammonia dissociation, basically generating nitrogen and hydrogen. This atmosphere can be used as protection gas for brazing, protection gas for sintering, reaction gas for bright annealing of steels, etc.
